Blackcurrant, also called stinkberry, is a shrub of the gooseberry family. In Poland, it is found both wild and widely cultivated. Its cradle is Europe and Asia. The oldest evidence of its cultivation dates back to the Middle Ages. It grows in a temperate climate.
Blackcurrants are an extremely nutrient-dense fruit. These sweet and sour fruits, which are only comparable in size to pearls, contain an incredible number of valuable vitamins and antioxidants—thiamine, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, vitamins A and E—minerals—calcium, iron, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium—as well as dietary fiber. Blackcurrants contain three times more vitamin C than lemons and flavonoids, which protect against many diseases.
Blackcurrants are a perfect addition to cakes and desserts. They will also add a unique taste and aroma to meat dishes.
