The traditional broom used during the Japanese tea ceremony to froth matcha tea.
A broom is also called a brush, a handcrafted brush made from a single piece of light-colored bamboo. The precise cuts create a flexible whisker, which is slightly curved at the bottom and gathered at the top and finished with a special wooden handle.
Chasen works best with a bowl for preparing and drinking matcha. The cup's vertical sides and wide bottom allow you to easily and conveniently "beat" the matcha into the water and quickly create a layer of foam on the surface. Remember that the temperature of the water in which the matcha is prepared should not exceed 80°C.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Tips for whisking matcha: It's best to start by whisking the matcha slowly. Gently rubbing the bottom of the bowl with the chasen whisk helps mix all of the matcha with the water. Then, move the chasen higher, closer to the surface, and begin more vigorous movements resembling the letter W or M for about 10 to 20 seconds.
Remember to work only with your wrist and not with your whole hand, which gets tired more quickly. A thin layer of foam should quickly appear on the surface. Perfect foaming of the tea is made possible thanks to the large number of flexible bamboo whiskers. The more whiskers there are in the teapot, the easier it is to achieve the so-called "jasper foam" or the perfect layer of foam.
For optimal results, the brush should be soaked in warm water before use and rinsed after use. Chasen shrinks when dried, becoming brittle and prone to damage, so it is worth storing it on a special naoshi stand.

Storing the chasen on a special stand helps ensure its longest lifespan and keeps it in good shape. However, do not reseal the chasen in plastic wrap or any other airtight container, as this could cause mold to accidentally grow on the bamboo handle.
