The prickly pear cactus is a plant in the cactus family, likely native to Mexico. Sometimes cultivated for its edible fruit and used as animal feed and for processing its shoots, the prickly pear cactus is avidly grown in homes and greenhouses as an ornamental plant.
The opuntia fig tree is a plant with extremely beneficial effects on our health and figure. It boasts, among other things, the content of vitamins - A, B groups, C, D, E and K - and minerals - potassium, phosphorus, silicon and iron. It is also a remarkable source of fiber. And all this for only 42 kcal per 100 g.
Prickly pear fruit is best eaten raw because it retains the most vitamins. As a spice, it can be served with tea, preferably green. They also work well sweetened as a dessert addition or as jam, syrup, juice, or jelly.
