The sunflower is one of the most beautiful cultivated and ornamental plants, with equally interesting applications and visual values. It blooms in mid-summer in Polish fields, decorating flowerbeds until late autumn. Sunflower seeds are extremely crunchy and nutritious.
Hulled sunflower seeds are a source of zinc, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron, among other nutrients. It should be consumed primarily by fans of healthy snacks, vegetarians, and gourmands - due to the high protein content, which is a source of energy and building material for muscles. Sunflower seeds contain a lot of fiber, thanks to which they regulate the work of the digestive system. The seeds are among the richest products in phytosterols, i.e., chemical compounds capable of lowering blood cholesterol levels. These seeds also contain folic acid, i.e., vitamin B9. Its deficiency can lead, for example, to anemia.
Sunflower seeds can be eaten shelled or added to salads (they taste great, especially with chicken or tuna salad), granola, and breakfast cereals. They shouldn't be forgotten when baking homemade bread. Sunflower seeds can also be toasted in a dry pan.
