In Asian countries, health-promoting tea made from naked barley grains is very popular. Glassy grains with a thin hull are used for barley production. Barley groats should be light gray in color with a greenish or yellowish tint. They have a very distinctive taste and smell. There are several types of barley: pearl barley, rolled pearl barley (Kujawy), broken barley, pearl barley (polished), and roasted pearl barley. Barley groats are the whole grain, without the husk. This is the most valuable type of barley.
Minimally processed grain products are a particularly valuable part of our diet, especially due to their high fiber content. Barley groats are one such product. They provide our body with valuable protein. Their protein content can reach 16%. Compared to wheat and corn products, barley protein is much more valuable. Barley groats are also a source of carbohydrates and many vitamins (especially B vitamins). Meals prepared with them will keep you full longer and give you energy for the whole day.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
To preserve the valuable vitamins and minerals contained in oatmeal, it should not be boiled in large quantities of water. Maintain the correct proportions to allow the porridge to absorb all the water during cooking. First, it is worth rinsing the groats in a colander under running water. Then boil 3 glasses of water for 1 glass of oatmeal. Add a little salt and a teaspoon of oil. Pour the groats over the boiling water and cook, covered, over low heat for about 20 minutes, until all the water is absorbed. When the groats are ready, turn off the heat and leave it covered for a few minutes.
In Polish cuisine, pearl barley is primarily associated with barley soup. However, it can be used in many other ways. It's an excellent, healthy substitute for potatoes and pasta. It goes well with meat dishes and mushroom sauces. It can be used to make cabbage rolls, dumpling fillings, and casseroles. It's a component of Kaszotto, a one-pot dish that's a delicious and simple dinner idea for the whole family.
