Artichoke - plant characteristics
Artichoke [Latin: Cynara scolymus] is a perennial plant belonging to the Asteraceae family, native to Europe and Africa. The countries where artichoke is cultivated on a large scale are Switzerland, Spain, Germany and France. The basic plant raw materials are the whole herb or isolated leaf. In Poland, artichoke must be cultivated in warm and sunny sites, characterized by fertile soils. Artichoke is very easily recognized by its taste, rather tangy and bitter.

Artichoke - a treasure trove of valuable substances
Artichoke contains

• phenolic acids known for their astringent, anti-edema and antioxidant properties
• cynarin, a substance belonging to phenolic acids, which has a positive effect on the functioning of the liver and bile ducts, on digestion and food metabolism, on cholesterol and lipid levels in the blood
• flavonoids, which are characterized by anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties
• chlorogenic acid which, according to literature, neutralizes, among others, the effect of peroxynitrite, one of the most harmful oxidants formed in the human body
• minerals such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and iron
• inulin, which has a positive effect on blood sugar regulation.

Artichoke - when is it worth consuming?

• Liver diseases - due to its cynarin content, artichoke is one of the most valuable plant raw materials, whose properties promote liver protection. As part of treatment, it is beneficial to combine it with milk thistle.
• Digestive problems - artichoke is recommended for constipation, digestive disorders, or flatulence due to its cholagogue, cholepoietic, and bowel movement regulating properties.
• Cholesterol level too high - the substances contained in artichoke help maintain normal levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood.
• Artichoke has mild diuretic properties and facilitates the elimination of harmful metabolic products.

In Italy, artichoke leaves are used to produce a unique, bittersweet liqueur, which bears the graceful name "Cynar".

Usage tips
Pour one teaspoon into a glass of boiling water and let it steep covered for about 10 to 15 minutes. Drink 1 to 2 times a day.

Artichoke tincture

Required ingredients:

• 100 grams of dried artichoke herb
• 200 ml of 40% alcohol.

Put the artichoke herb in a bottle, pour the previously prepared alcohol. Seal tightly and shake. Let it rest for 15 days while shaking frequently. After this period, filter the liqueur and pour it into a clean bottle.

Take artichoke tincture 10 to 30 drops in a glass of water, several times a day, one hour before meals.
