DESCRIPTION:
Glycine is one of the 20 essential amino acids that form the building blocks of proteins in living organisms. It is the simplest amino acid, as it has the lowest molecular weight of all amino acids. Its chemical structure contains only one carbon atom (C), two hydrogen atoms (H), an amine group (NH2), and a carboxyl group (COOH).
Glycine is the building block of proteins in the human body.
In the brain, it acts as a neurotransmitter that transmits signals between nerve cells. It is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, meaning it inhibits neuronal activity, thereby reducing neuronal excitation. Glycine is part of proteins and peptides that are essential for building and repairing the body's tissues.
