Bitter knotweed contains flavonoids such as quercetin, hyperoside, and rutin, as well as essential oils and saponins, including ellagic acid. Thanks to these ingredients, products based on bitter knotweed have a protective effect on the walls of blood vessels. They also increase blood viscosity and thus help stop bleeding. Traditional herbal medicine recommends the use of bitter knotweed products in cases of heavy menstruation, gastroduodenal ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, and hemorrhoids. They can be useful in combating spider veins, capillary fragility, varicose veins, and edema. The ingredients contained in bitter knotweed also have diuretic, choleretic, anti-inflammatory, and astringent properties. According to herbal literature, preparations (infusions and compresses) relieve diarrhea, inflammation, reduce edema, and can even stop frequent nosebleeds. Infusion compresses, applied locally, soothe broken capillaries and spider veins. The oligosaccharide is not recommended for people suffering from thrombosis or circulatory disorders. Directions for use: Pour 250 ml of boiling water over 50 ml of dried herb. Cover and let steep for about 15 minutes. Strain. Drink 60 ml of the infusion 2 to 3 times a day.
