The quality of NFO omega-3 acid products is determined by:

1. Raw material source: NFO does not use external sources of raw materials, but only a known and reliable source - the headquarters of NFO INTERNATIONAL AS is located in Trondheim - the center of Norwegian aquaculture and fisheries and Norwegian salmon exports. For the production of NFO® Omega-3, only fish located at a low level of the food chain is used, with very low levels of contaminants such as mercury, dioxins and PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), chemically resistant substances that easily accumulate in living organisms, such as fish, and which belong to the group of substances prohibited for production and use. Despite this, large quantities are still used. It is estimated that of the approximately 1.5 million tons of PCBs produced worldwide, two-thirds are still in use or present in the environment.


2. Time between capture and the start of oil extraction: the shorter the time, the better. Why? The shorter the time, the lower the TOTOX parameter (i.e., the degree of oxidation or purity - the lower this parameter, the lower the degree of oxidation). The TOTOX of a fish in a body of water is zero. The minimum TOTOX of a fish after capture is 4. The TOTOX of all NFO products is most often 6 / 6.5 (based on laboratory data), even though European regulations allow a maximum value of 20. How is this possible? NFO production facilities are located near catch collection stations. The finished product can be obtained just a few hours after the fish is caught.


3. Production technology: NFO uses a multi-stage purification process for the raw material, including a molecular distillation step, ensuring the highest level of fish oil purification from harmful contaminants. Furthermore, the manufacturer, NFO INTERNATIONAL AS, strictly adheres to Norwegian and European national regulations regarding biochemical purity. Production physically takes place in a factory owned by Pharmatech AS, which is owned by a family member, so production is under their own control.


4. Capsule formulation: capsules in a gel shell - their quality is determined by the degree of protection of the oil inside from oxygen; physicochemical parameters are also important - the content of all polyunsaturated fatty acids PUFA (including omega-3) in a low-quality capsule decreases very quickly over time. In NFO capsules, the contents do not change their properties during the shelf life.
