Calendula [Latin: Calendula officinalis] is an annual plant species belonging to the Asteraceae family. Although it is naturally native to the Mediterranean region, it has established itself there permanently. Today, it can be found growing naturally in gardens and on crops. Calendula has been recognized by the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries for its numerous properties. The most sought-after and widely used plant raw material is its flower or petals.

Calendula flowers contain

Calendula - when should it be used?

• Calendula tincture can be used as a poultice on purulent wounds that are difficult to heal, oozing ulcers, and moist pimples.
• In cases of colds, coughs, flu, and many other infectious diseases with flu-like symptoms, a calendula infusion in milk will be helpful.
• For gastritis and intestinal infections, the simplest calendula infusion is recommended.
• For sore throats, aphthous ulcers, and erosions, a very strong infusion can be used to gargle the mouth and throat.
• Acne and inflammations - try washing the skin with a calendula flower infusion or simply with calendula petals.
• Burns, rashes, or frostbite - a mild calendula ointment is indispensable for these conditions.

Usage suggestion:

Calendula ointment - Ingredients needed:

• a cube of lard
• two large handfuls of dried calendula petals
• fragrant oil (optional)
• glass jar
• a strainer

Heat the lard in a saucepan, add the dried calendula petals. Bring to a boil while stirring constantly. Let cool. Reheat until a smooth paste is obtained.
