Iron sulfate is an inorganic chemical compound: a salt of iron and sulfuric acid. Hydrated iron sulfate, FeSO4·7H2O, was formerly called iron vitriol or iron copervase. It is a light green crystalline substance that melts at 64 °C and transforms into FeSO4·H2O monohydrate at 90 °C. At a temperature of 327 °C, water is released and transformed into anhydrous iron sulfate.

Properties
Iron II sulfate heptahydrate, FeSO4 ·7H2O, contributes to the death of mosses. It has a characteristic blue-green color. It is a fertilizer that lowers soil pH. It is best used during periods of intensive grass growth. Treatments should be repeated every few weeks.

Use to control moss
Iron(II) Sulfate has strong drying effects on mosses. It has a contact action and causes them to turn brown and then black.
Ferrous sulfate can eliminate moss from lawns and prevent its formation. It stimulates the plant's immune system and prevents grass diseases. It is used to treat iron chlorosis, which causes yellowing of leaves.
The basis for good moss control is thorough coverage with the preparation, which is why liquid forms of the agent are used most effectively. A valuable advantage of iron sulfate is its activity at temperatures down to 0°C. This means it can be used in early spring, during the period of intensive moss growth, before spring fertilization.
Iron sulfate comes in the form of a blue-green powder and lumps that easily break up. It is soluble in water. If the concentration is too high, the grass may turn black, but this effect disappears after a few days. If there is a risk of frost, the preparation should not be used, but it can be used at a temperature of 0°C and the treatment repeated after about 3-4 weeks.
A sign of effective moss removal is the blackening of the moss after about 2-3 days after using the preparation. Dead moss should be removed with a rake - do not compost.
Iron sulfate should only be used on lawns where it is well absorbed. It should not be used on building surfaces such as roofs, sidewalks, concrete blocks, walls, patios, concrete, garden sculptures and the like, as it leaves a dark (black or brown) coating that is difficult to remove (it can be removed with).
After applying the preparation, avoid contact with the lawn for approximately 7 days as there is a risk of irritation or discoloration of other surfaces.
The clumping of the product is a natural and reversible process that affects the properties of the lawn, the substance does not change.

Dosage
To spray the lawn, use a 3% solution of iron sulfate in water – 300 g (1/3 kg) of the substance should be able to be dissolved in 10 l of water.
