ORGANIC BANCHA GREEN TEA 60 g - MOYA MATCHA
INGREDIENTS
100% Bancha Green Tea* (*certified organic ingredient)
DESCRIPTION
Organic green tea made from ripe leaves from the second and third flushes harvested from the same shrubs as Sencha leaves. Bancha is a popular tea for everyday use in Japan. The leaves of the summer and autumn crops from which it is naturally produced contain less caffeine (half that of Sencha or Gyokuro), fewer aromatic substances, and more tannins, which gives Bancha its distinctive flavor. In Japan, it is often served with meals. Its relatively low caffeine content means it is often drunk in the evening. Less caffeine (or theine, as this compound is often called in tea) also results in less bitterness in the tea infusion compared to Sencha. The name Bancha comes from the words "ban" and "cha." "Cha" in Japanese means tea. The word "ban" (番), on the other hand, has a double meaning. It can be understood as equivalent to "ordinary," "popular," or "everyday." On the other hand, "ban" written 晩 with the same pronunciation means "late" and refers to the late harvest from which Bancha leaves come.
Bancha gained popularity during the Edo period and is now the second most popular green tea in Japan. There are over 20 types of Bancha, each with varying degrees of fermentation and sourced from different regions. Bancha tea is often recommended for vegan diets as it is the richest source of plant-based iron (38 mg/100 g of Bancha). Moya Bancha is sourced from small family farms in Kagoshima Prefecture on Kiushu Island.
