Rhubarb - plant characteristics
The European origin of the plant Symphytum officinale L. is comfrey. In Poland, it is very common in the wild and can be found throughout the country - it prefers the company of water bodies. It belongs to the borage family (Boraginaceae). It is commonly called Polish ginseng. The plant blooms from May to June. The most sought-after raw material is the comfrey root, harvested in autumn or early spring. The root is characterized by its dark brown, almost black surface, elongated and deeply grooved, as well as its spindle shape. The root break is horny, whitish, sometimes slightly brownish.
Rhubarb and joints
Rhubarb root has powerful analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. That is why it is used externally on painful areas, for example in the form of poultices. Additionally, it relieves rheumatoid arthritis. Every athlete should know comfrey root, as it is the best natural remedy for many types of injuries. It is ideal for back and joint injuries, fractures, tendon inflammations, and muscle pain.
Rhubarb root - effects on the skin
Rhubarb is extremely valuable due to its high content of allantoin, a heterocyclic derivative of urea. This plant raw material therefore has a very positive effect on the skin:

Hedocost ointment - how to prepare it?
Ingredients:
Melt the lard in a saucepan and add the grated comfrey bark. Fry for a while, after removing the pan from the heat, let it cool, pour the ointment into dark jars, wait for the preparation to set, then screw the jar and store it in a cool place. If necessary, apply a thick layer of the ointment to the affected area twice a day.
Usage: For external use only! Use as an ointment, poultice, or tincture.
