Olive trees are extremely hardy, resistant to disease and pests. They are even 3,000 years old. This resistance is due to oleuropein, a bitter substance found mainly in their leaves.

It is the most potent active ingredient in olive leaf. Oleuropein is a bitter glycosidic monoterpene from the seciridoid group. Oleuropein and its hydrolysis products, such as eleonic acid, aglycone, and calcium eleonoate - a salt extracted from eleonic acid

All these elements, acting in synergy, create enormous power in the fight against pathogenic organisms. They damage the outer cell membrane of fungi and bacteria that attack olive trees.
