Blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum L.) is a plant of the gooseberry family native to the temperate regions of Eurasia. Valued primarily for its small, sweet, and tangy fruits, blackcurrants boast numerous health benefits. 100g of blackcurrants cover more than two and a half times our vitamin C needs, making them recommended for colds. Blackcurrants are also rich in soluble fiber, or pectin, which can prevent excessively high plasma cholesterol and high blood sugar levels. Blackcurrants are also a source of vitamin A, which is important for eye health.
